Dear Friends

I think that the best tool for the MW NET planning is IQ-LINK
as It is used by most good operators like Deutsch telecom

can somebody share the training manuals for this SW

Thanks

There is also ATDI's planning tool, which is very powerful and also Aircom's link planning tool.

Hi SCHERIFFHELMY,

It's interesting if we can share the experience in using tool. Hope you will explain for iQ.Link because I am not really good in this.
Each tool has its advantage to others, and I protect my opinion as like this
A good tool must have at least:
- Good modeling and parameters
- Good graphic displaying
- Good database management
- Good interference planning (automatic)

For me,
The Connect have all of properties above, and it works with other module in the same tool (Enterprise suit) with sharing database on Oracle basic. So it's very convenience if you with in a team with RF/Core/SA, ... easy for database synchronization. That's why I vote it the most powerful.
For Pathloss, it's simple and many people know it, so it's popular.

as far as i know the "Deutsche Telekom" don`t have a internal planning group for microwave planning. The MW Planning will be done by E******* (EMG). The have acquired the MW transmission group from the "Deutsche Telekom" some years ago. I guess that they design their links with E******* internal tool "WinFF" and probably TEMS Link Planner. But i think to know that they don`t use IQ.link. I know that in germany the Vodafone and nthe O2 group use IQlink.
I worked with WinFF and with Pathloss 4 & 5 and my experience are that the WInFF tool have more advantages releated to Pathloss4 because there is a database connection available (don`t find in pl4), there are many possibilities to extend your planning with diagrams, Print out of full planning reports is included and so on. The calculations are based on ITU recommondations and on Marconi planning modells. The WInFF tool was designed for Long-Haul applications.

Yes, major drawback for Pathloss is support for multi-user environment. You could put all the sites and all the links on database (server), still, much work needs to be done on each of the users' computer.
Still, if you run a one-man-show, like we usually do, Pathloss is good enough. :)

I think it's useful for us to share what we experienced with the tool by its advantages and disadvantages, I start with PL4 and Connect. Please add more or correct me if something wrong, and also for other tools
PATHLOSS 4.0
Advantages:
- Popular, easy to use
- Quick start, doesn’t use much computer resource (light)
- Easy to find c****ed (hehe) and equipment data files
Disadvantages:
- Not good in database management (number of layer is limited for displaying legend and need to be separated by folders to make more layers but still inconvenient, synchronizing with RF data manually)
- Manual frequency planning
- Interference analysis without consideration to terrain, clutter

CONNECT (AIRCOM ENTERPRISE)
Advantages:
- Standalone or net-workshop support
- Oracle basic database management
- Float layering for various legends
- Synchronize database with RF, SA, …
- Powerful automatic frequency planning
- Interference analysis with consideration to terrain, clutter
Disadvantages:
- Heavy due to Oracle
- Hard to find c****ed version or not work well
