Default Frequency Planning : "hexagonal cell patterns" vs "interference matrix calculation"

Anyone have some material to justify Frequency Planning using Interference Matrix Calculation over Hexagonal Cell Patterns ?
2G or Tetra/PMR from the last 5 years preferred !
Superior methods would be even more appreciated !

    Dear,

I think that Hexagonal pattern are just theorical methode compared to interference matrix wich is more realistic, because it's based on live Measurments reports.

    B regards,

But if the network is still in planning phase and there are no measurement reports yet? Maybe I have misunderstood.
Any tips on setting up a useful Interference Matrix? or is this something I need to do within a specific radio planning tool?

Thanks a lot, a nice paper which gives an insight whats going on inside the radio planning software during frequency planning.
    Cheers!

    Hi, I think:
    * IF you have a live network with traffic and users, the best is to create an interference matrix from UE measurements. Then use these measurements with Planing tool SCHEMA, MENTUM PLANET or OPTIMI AFP.
    - With this live measurements is possible have FULL ADHOC - FREQUENCY PLAN, especially for networks with NARROW BAND.

    * IF you don't have live measurements, also you can create a FREQUENCY PLAN with AFP (Automatic Frequency Plan) modules with all Planing tools (ATOLL, MENTUM PLANET, ASSET, etc.), BUT you need a good MAP DATABASE (high, morphology, etc.) And a good propagation model (model tuning).
