    Dear,

    Usually, abis timeslot is configured as 1 radio ts = 3 abis ts (16 kbit) in order to have most of the time MSC9,

    Dear,

    As you already know 1 Ts Um in EDGE technology can achive 59 kbit/s, and this can be achived only in MSC9 coding, for that reason to support this speed we need 4X16 kbit/s = 64 kbit/s in Abis interface. But, in reality the speed of 59 kbit/s is very difficult to be achieved and when we increase more the 1 TS in Um interface the abis interface become dinamic so is waste of capacity in Abis to use for each ts in Um 4 ts 16 kbit/s in abis.

    For that reason from test and recommandation is calculated the 1 Ts in Um need 3 Ts in Abis so we can achieve MSC9 coding in those circuntancies.

    I hope i help you.

    Kind regards
    Roni

    hi

    you are right because,EDGE uses 8-PSK modulation so it allows to multiply by a factor of 3 data throughput.
    Two powers three is equal to eight

    Default E/// Abis as example

    Hi

    what we have

    UNCONCENTRETED ----- 1 DEV
    MULTIPLEX16 ----- 1DEV
    CONCENTRETED ----- CONFACT2 2 DEV
    CONCENTRETED ----- CONFACT4 4DEV

    unc: 1TRX --------3dev
    conc: 1trx--------2.25 dev ------confact 4
    2.5 dev -----confact 2
    Mplex16 :1trx ------------2 dev
    1DEV = 64K

    about the edge dev's calcultion
    The rule is each 3 edge dev's defined, give 1 edge dev bonus

    Each edge dev ( 64k) can carrier 1 Tch ( 16k)
    3 edge dev will be carried 3 Tch
    If I remove 1 speech/data dev ( 4*16k ) and define it as edge dev ( 64k ).The 4 Tch lossed above will be distributed as following.
    3 edge dev -----> 1 edge dev bonus
    4 edge dev -----> 1.25 edge dev bonus ( possibilty to have one more bonus if we have mplex32 idel ) .
    5 edge dev -----> 1.5 edge dev bonus ( possibilty to have one more bonus if we have mplex16 idel ).
    6 edge dev -----> 2 edge dev bonus
    7 edge dev -----> 2.25 edge dev bonus ( possibilty to have one more bonus if we have mplex32 idel ).
    8 edge dev -----> 2.5 edge dev bonus ( possibilty to have one more bonus if we have mplex16 idel ).
    9 edge dev -----> 3 edge dev bonus ( here it's ok we reach 12 edge dev's ) .

    Br Hassen
