In Nokia , it is called RAN2717: Smart LTE Layering function. Same like Huawei fast return to LTE.

RAN2717 is blind redirection from 3G to LTE once CSFB finished , UE will come back within 1 sec to LTE.

Need to enable below parameter :- SmartLTELayeringPrevT

The parameter defines a minimum time that the UE must be in WCDMA system after RRC Connection Setup Complete has been received or when Relocation Request for PS service is received from LTE. An UE can be redirected to LTE by Smart LTE Layering feature after the timer defined by this parameter expires. When this timer is running the Smart LTE Layering is not triggered.
Setting timer value too low may cause ping pong redirections between WCDMA and LTE. Setting timer value too high may cause that redirection to LTE is not triggered as frequently as would be most effective

So implementing you can check below counter.

    • M1006C263 - RRC CONN RELEASE LTE REDIR DUE TO CH TYPE SWITCH, or
    • M1006C291 - RRC CONN RELEASE LTE REDIR DUE TO CS CALL RELEASE

UE is not moved to LTE.
When the UE makes a new RRC connection to 3G after a failed redirection, it typically uses RRC establishment cause “call re-establishment”. Therefore, major increase inM1001C58 - CALL RE ESTAB ATTEMPTS counter after enabling RAN2717: Smart LTE Layering feature can imply that the UE is often not able to connect to LTE after redirected by the RNC, for example due to no 3G and LTE coverage overlapping

Does anyone know how the Huawei feature work? in what RRC state (CELL_FACH, URA_PCH, CELL_DCH) does the feature work (CSFB)?

Thanks, do you also have the 3G one? I need the 3G version more than the 2G one.
