Hi Gurus,
what at is the exact difference between Calculating throughput from RLC or Mac and which is preferred ?
Thanks

MAC Throughput contains additional headers and padding bits as compared to the RLC . Thats why is is higher also.
What is preferable depends on the System Vendor as well as Operator Requirement. But Generally we use Mac Throughput to measure system performance.

Re: RLC vs Mac Layer throughput
MAC layer ,possible to do re-transmitted
so MAC will count all
Normal packet
Not complete packet
re-send packet

Hi,
Yes, MAC Layer will include normal as well re-transmitted packet also.

Re: RLC vs Mac Layer throughput
In huawei counter, MAC throughput does not have header and retransmit data. All are excluded.

Hi Kadir
Can you mention the Throughput Calculation formula along with the counter descriptions.

So, Mac throughput will always be higher ? The debate is Mac thr. is used coz its more related to Radio side.( to detect any issues)
But, mean while RLC throughput is more related/nearer to the User/App Layer which the customer experience
Thanks a lot Shivam

I think we have to exclude the re-transmission by adjusting the formula by * (1-ReTx ratio)

MAC-D throughput per Ue=V.S.HSDPAthroughput.sum/V.S.hsdpathroughput.sample this is RAN16 formula

Re: RLC vs Mac Layer throughput
Hi Kadir,
Dont see any Adjustment done in this formula for Re-Transmitted Packet Exclusion.
Please check the counter definition, if it is excluding re-transmitted packets then it must have been mentioned explicitly in its definition.
