Question on the transmission field about the ( Modulation )

I'v just joined to work on AlcaTel equipment , and i have a question regarding the Modulation type ( Fixed or Adaptive ) does the type affect on the link alignment ? and if yes please is there any document to show that ?

I think the allignment depend basicly on the clearence of first fresnel zone which is related to freqency band and not to the modulation.
