Default Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) in LTE

    Dear friends,

Could you give detail explanation for Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) in LTE:

What is relation between CQI and SINR?
Does UE report it periodically to eNodeB?
How is the calculation of CQI?

    etc...

    Thanks in advance

Channel Quality Indicator is a measure of Channel Quality calculated by UE and sent to eNodeB. It contains info on the suitable MCS rate which can be assigned to the channel. Its calculation is not standard & depends on a number of variables, eg. SINR, UE Capability etc.
For its relation with SINR, for sure it is directly proportional as it indicates the Channel Quality. Better SINR will lead to Better CQI.

Regarding its reporting to eNodeB , it is indexed into 15 values and can be reported Periodically (using PUCCH or PUSCH channels) as well as Aperiodically (using PUSCH).

Check out CQI information present in - http://sharetechnote.com/html/Handbook_LTE_CQI.html
The base site http://sharetechnote.com/ contains full of useful informations about many wireless technologies and other stuff.

    Hope you find it useful.
