COVERAGE STRATEGY IN TETRA QUASI-SYNCHRONOUS SYSTEMS

    Abstract
In this paper, the effect of the spalcing distance between the base stations on the BER performance of a quasisynchronous
TETRA system is investigated. Two models are presented, the first assumes two base stations
are used to cover the service mea while the second model considers a system where the service area is
covered by seven base stations. jBoth models are implemented by computer simulation. Simulation results
suggest that wide area coverage can be achieved by dividing the service area into a number of zones (cells),
with each zone being a quasi-synchronous area served by several base stations

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF TETRA IN HILLY AND URBAN
TERRAIN, AND IN A QUASI-SYNCHRONOUS ENVIRONMENT

Abstract In this paper, the performance of TETRA modulation in a dificult urban, a hill
terrain and in a quasi-synchronous environment, are evaluated. Under the urban and hilly
terrain conditions, a 2-ray model is used to evaluate the noise performance. lri the simulcast
environment, a 2..ray as well as a 4-ray model are used to evaluate the noise performance.
Degradation in The performance due to different impairments, such as frequency offset,
di, ferentia1 delay and amplitude imbalances. are investigated and illustrated graphically.

DESIGN OF THE TETRA MOBILE RADIO AIR INTERFACE PROTOCOL (1993)

    ABSTRACT
Studies run by the European Telecommmunications
Standards Institute (ETSI) to establish the TETRA
digital mobile -ed radio standard are presented. The
format of the physical burst structure is examined and
properties of the air interface protocol described.
Simulated performance of a digital communication
system corresponding to the basic characteristics of
TETRA on the mobile radio channel are given. DilTerent
channel coding schemes are studied to find the best
compromise solution for the random access slot format.
The joint selection is presented between the error control
scheme for signalling channels, the dimensioning of
signalling messages, and the call set-up procedure, in
order to optimize the call set-up time performance and
    the throughput efficiency.

    SPEECH TRANSMISSION IN TETRA (1993)

Abstract This paper briefly describes the TETRA standard, details the requirements for speech
transmission in this system, describes the procedure adopted for selection of a codec algorithm
and gives details of one of the codec candidates.

PERFORMANCE STUDIES OF THE TETRA MOBILE RADIO SYSTEM (1996)

Abstract A basic introduction to the TETRA voice plus
data mobile radio system is presented and call set up
procedures examined. Results of a computer simulation
indicate that call set up procedures without a presence check
on the called party are significantly faster than call set ups
in which the presence of the called party is checked before
establishing the call. Some preliminary results of a
parameter study to show the affect of slotted ALOHA
parameters on access performance are also presented.

Voice and data services in power utilities
    using a TETRA system (1996)

Private land mobile communications have experienced significant
demand for increased capacity and for new services, but
congestion within the currently allocated 150 and 450MHz bands
has severely limited the capability of present generation systems to
meet this demand. The authors show the use of a transEuropean
trunked radio system (TETRA) standard to provide a telecontrol
service for a medium size power utility. They introduce the
concepts of TETRALAN architecture to support Communications
inside a substation, and TETRAWAN architecture as the
backbone radio network. Finally, system performance is increased
by using the silence gaps inherent in speech.

TETR ASIIM: A simulation software package for ana1y:zing the
    TETRA receiver performance (1995)

    Abstract-TETRA (Trans-European Trunked RAdio) is a
new digital mobile radio standardl currently being defined by
ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). It
will offer a wide range of services and facilities with a greater
spectrum efficiency compared to the present analog PMR
(Private Mobile Radio) systems. This paper reports a
description of the main features of a software package
developed according to TETRA specifications and the
simulation results obtained for some of the traffic channels
specified by the standard, in terms of BER (Bit Error Rate). As
far as the simulated receiver scheme is concerned, the
characteristics of the equivalent low-pass filters and the
adopted synchronization technique are reported. The
simulated demodulator uses a differential detection scheme
with soft decision outputs in the case of coded channels.

RADIO PERFORMANCE OF LOGICAL CHANNELS DEFINED IN TETRA STANDARD (1997)

Abstract- TETRA (Trans-European Trunked RAdio) is a
digital mobile radio standard for voice and data
transmission. It aims at satisfying the girowing request of
applications and facilities coming from ]professional users
and elmergency services. The system is at advanced level of
    standardization by ETSI (European Telecommunications
Standurds Institute) and is provided an European
    harmonized frequency band.
This paper reports TETRA logicall channels radio
performance carried out by TETRASIM, a simulation
software package, entirely developed at CSELT, which
allows for the system radio chain modellling, according to
the standard specifications. Performance analyses and
results comparison are provided by taking into account
the effects of co-channel interference, propagation models
and mobile unit speed. The simulation results reported in
this work were included inside the ETR (ETSZ Technical
    Report)

PERFORMANCE OF CHANNEL CODING TECHNIQUES FOR THE DIGITAL
    MOBILE RADIO SYSTEM TETRA (1997)

Abstract.-This paper deals with channel coding techniques
for the digital mobile radio system TETRA. First of all, it
describes briefly what is TETRA and which are the codes
standardised in order to control errors. After that it will be
explained what simulations have been carried out and the
environments considered. Finally, results of simulations will
    be shown and analyzed.
