I am Kean Chan, the creator of MCOM and NeXplorer. Since I left Ericsson TEMS in 2005, I have founded Aexio ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) to continue my passion in the software development.

In Aexio, I have developed Aexio Xeus which is the successor to MCOM. Good news is you can get a free version of Aexio Xeus. I will like to use this thread to get your inputs and feedback on Aexio Xeus so that it can be as popular as MCOM :)

If I was still working in Ericsson, I have no problem to turn Xeus Pro 30 days trial to be free :p. But now, doing that will put my team out of job and prevent us to continue supporting the free version :D.

The aim of Xeus Lite is to be the de facto free day to day network configuration visualization tool just like AVG Free for Anti Virus software. Xeus Pro has add-on features to support other data source such as Drive Test and GPEH. If you compare Xeus Lite to Pro version, yes its features are limited since it only handle network dump file, but if you compare to MCOM, it has a lot of features including Google Earth mapping and multi vendor dump import.

So if you can list out those features that you think are missing in the LiTe version in respect to the network visualization, my team and I will work hard to get them delivered to you.

Thanks for your feedback. I will add a combo box which will list the available frequencies in the database for the coming 2010 release. As for the the arrow key, you should be able to use the up & down on the frequency box in Xeus currenlty. Can you try it out?

Do you mean if Xeus Lite can import Siemens network dump? At the moment, it supports Siemens GSM network dump only. Since most Siemens 3G is being swapped to Nokia 3G, we have not added the support for Siemens 3G as it already has Nokia 3G support.

Yes, you can install Pro side by side with Xeus LIte. In fact, they can share the same project. Only thing is you won't see the unsupported data source in Xeus LiTe.

Yes, Xeus Lite is free forever. At the download page [Only registered and activated users can see links] click "Download Xeus LiTe". You just need to fill up the registration form to download the installation file. You will receive the serial key for activation through email.

The key is good for single activation. You will need to repeat the same process if you want to install in anotehr PC.

Actually, another thing I remembered which is really annoying, Xeus can't remember the last path used for making a new project, it would be good if it remembered this, like it does for importing files into the project.

Thanks for your feedback. I will add this in the coming 2010 Lite release (scheduled this month).

What I can do is to provide a drop down box for the new project location. It will have the last location and the default My Documents/Xeus. By default the last location will be selected.

Previously I proposed that we shall have a combo box to selected existing ARFCN in the network database. After discussing with the development team, we found that querying the available ARFCN with take a while since the TCH is in text form. This could be a problem for user with large network.

The alternative is to have combo-box showing all frequencies in GSM band. Due to the large number of the frequencies, scrolling to get the want ARFCN would not be a good choice.

Finally we decided to use a Numeric Up Down control for the coming Xeus 2010 Lite. With this control user can either clicking on the up down button or using up down key.

Kean: Xeus currently does not supoprt TCH info in TEMS Cel file. One way is to import BSC dump after importing the cel file to get the frequencies and neighbor. Alternative, you will need to convert the cell file to Xeus Network Interchange File XIF format.

I have converted your cel to XIF file (attached). Here arethe steps I have taken.
a. Import the Cel file into Xeus
b. Export the network as XIF. (Click File..Import and Export..Export Network Data and select Xeus Network Interchange File.
c. Open the exported XIF file in Excel.
d. Insert the TCH info in "TCHARFCN" field. Each TCH is separated by space
e. Save the file
f. Re-import the file.

I will add support of TCH for cel file as a candidate for next release.

Kean: Using the same method in item 1, you can export all cell info into XIF and open in Excel.

If you select few cells in the Map, you can use MapInfo Save table as DBF. Here are the steps:
a. Open the Layer Control (Click Map.. Layer Control)
b. Uncheck all layers for the "Selected-able" column except the layer with name starting with "xCell..."
c. Now select cell on the map using select tool.
d. Save the selection. Click File..Save...Table As
e. Choose "Selection" from the save dialog
f. Enter the target file and choose DBF as the format
g. Open the dbf file in Excel

Kean; You can redraw the network by clicking Network...Redraw Network.
At the Redraw Network dialog, you can set the color,size and other attributes.

If you have use the CellType file in XIF format, you can set differetn size ratio for different cell type. For example, you may want a small cell size for micro site.

Good suggestion. I never know you can do that using MapInfo. We will add the Copy too button to Xeus to allow you to copy selected object.

I miss out the error you encountered. The "Key not found" error is due to corrupted config file. Please follow the steps in the Aexio Knowledge-base to resolve the problem.

From the snapshot, it seems that your external neighbor are IRAT neighbor. The reason it is highlighted red is because Xeus could not find the matching Utran Cell in the network database. If you follow these steps to import the 3G data, it will display the IRAT relation correctly.

1. 2G Site data from MCOM SIte or TEMS Cell file
2. Ericssson GSM BSC Dump
3. 3G Site Data from MCOM Site or TEMS Cell file
4. 3G KGET or Bulk CM

For IRAT relation, Xeus will match the external cell using the
a. CGI for GSM Cell
b. UCGI (MNC-MNN-LAC-RncId-cId) for Utran Cell

You skip step 4 but your 3G site data must have MNC-MNN-LAC-RncId-cId information.

Due to all relation/neighbours are not create in bothway (especially in multi vendor), with pleasure if added fiture for show the source with display lines to a target if we click on the target, in other word for facilitate the audit of incoming relations.

seems to be that there is a problem when creating neighbours when you update using dumpfiles for R10, R12,7B or 8b. It will not create an external cell as neighbours..But if you use the neigbour data like mcom 4.2 it will be OK.

is it possible to have a cell ID selection for sectoring before loading it to network.

for example,

our network here the naming starts with the sector ID ( ex. ABUHISA,BBUHISA,CBUHISA )

In our operator ALMADAR ALJADID we are using Xeus since 2008 for our Ericsson BSC.
But why it does not support ALU BSC and RNO dumb files ?

One more thing I would request, I keep Ericsson BulkCM XML files in RAR, ZIP is about 10 times bigger than RAR. The problem is, when I make a new project and go to import Ericsson BulkCM, by default it is always on ZIP.
Could you add support for RAR?
Secondly, could you also make it so that the window automatically shows all XML and ZIP files, not only ZIP. Because I always keep the latest BulkCM in XML format and then archive it in RAR.

Our current compression library does not support RAR and I could not find a good library in the market that does that.

As for the XML select, we will change the default filter to include xml.

Currently Xeus does not support direct Huawei BSC dump import. We are working on to support the XML export from the M2000. Once it is available I will announce in this forum.

One thing that you need to work on it is the google earth build tool , it only working with the old google earth version !!! and now all have the Google earth 5 and more !!!

Just to share some information with all.

Here's some FAQ for those who wanted to request for trial version of XEUS PRO 2010.

How do I request for a 30 days trial License for Xeus Pro?
Submit a request for a trial form from Aexio’s website -> receive confirmation email -> fill in form in link sent in confirmation email -> receive 30 days license key-> activate Xeus. Please ensure that you have provided a valid business email.

Why do I need to use a business email when I request for a trial? Can use my personal/internet mail?
The Xeus Pro 30 Days free trial is solely for evaluation purposes. To prevent repeated request from the same user, It's Aexio policy that the trial request only can be grants to individuals with business emails. Therefore request that uses free mail (e.g. gmail, yahoo, hotmail) will not be entertained.

What are the differences between Xeus Pro, Xeus Standard & Xeus Lite?
Xeus Standard and Xeus LiTe and are basically lighter versions of the Xeus family. Please refer to the datasheet found here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) for a detailed comparison between all three.

Can I install it into my own personal computer?
Yes, as long as you meet the minimum system requirements.

That should not be the case. You should be able to check the Edit option of the Cosmetic layer. At the map menu you can save the cosmetic layer.

If you still have problem, please let me know the MapInfo version that you are using.

during the lite registration process, did you receive the email with xeus lite serial key in it? you should use the serial key to activate the xeus lite since your trial period is over.
on another note pls check your spam inbox to check whether the serial key email have been directed there.

The Lite version was designed for viewing the network. During every new release of Lite, we will unlock some paid features and make it available for the free version e.g. Google Earth support.

We are currently working an increment release that will process the new W10 GPEH Event which has the Propagation Delay. This iwll be out next week.

For the visualization part, it is planned for 2011 release together with Coverage plot. This will out end of Q2.

I noticed that now (I updated Xeus lite), when I open the view in Google Earth, it loads the network by WCDMARegion, and I don't see any sites until I zoom right in.
In the older versions, I could load the whole network, and see it no matter how far I zoom out, but now, I need to zoom right in to see the site in Google Earth?

yes, the feature was introduced to provide faster loading of a large network in Google Earth. Previously, displaying a whole network data in Google Earth requires a large amount of memory and it is slow. In this new build, it will only build based on the zoom level and the region is visible. This is similar to zoom level setting for layer in MapInfo.

Is the zoom level threshold for visibility in Google Earth OK for you?

Yes, you can have multiple vendor dump loaded one by one. If the same cell file exist, it will be replaced.

Please make sure you uncheck the "Fresh Import" option at the import dialog. Selecting that option will remove all network data prior to the import.

Maybe, you might think about implementing a way of having regions highlighted in google earth when zoomed out and have the sites appear when zooming in. For me, I would like for sites to start appearing at around 100km eye altitude. (or maybe have an option in Aexio to set this level?)

Kean: You can add a new carrier layer. Please refer to the Online Help under section Work with Networks..Network..Technology Bands..Add another carrier layer in Technology Band. Once set, your future import will be automatically separated to different carrier layer.

Hi,
You can do the same in Xeus. There is a Cell Status property for each cell which can be changed in teh network properties view.

This property is not supported for TEMS Cell File. If you want to import the status you will need to use the XIF format.

The easier way is to export the network data to XIF format (File..Import & Export...Export Network data). After editing the XIF file in Excel, you can import the it back to Xeus.

There was bug in the early release of Xeus for the ALU parsing. Can you try to get the latest build Version 2012 12.1.66? Please follow these step to get the latest build How to download Xeus without filling the registration form ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

The ALU files is a set of csv files export from the OMC in zip format. You will need to zip the csv file in single zip file before importing to Xeus.

Are you using old Xeus LiTe serial key?

Xeus will run MapInfo Professional in the background through Windows OLE calling. In order for OLE to work, the MapInfo professional needs to register itself to the Windows which is performed during installation.

I have not come across the portable version.

If you do not have any support file format, the easier way is to create a Xeus Interchange File (XIF) which a tab-delimited text format.

There is a sample file in the Xeus program folder and you can find the description of the columns in the Help file.

Thank you for your input. One disadvantage of using embedded MapX like Actix or TEMS is it requires us to pay MapInfo royalty per each copy of Xeus. This will be costly for Aexio to provide free version of Xeus.

I have also looked into open source GIS but the features and functionalities are still far behind as compared to MapInfo. Moreover our main target user are RF engineer and majority will have MapInfo Professional.

Aexio Xeus Free does not come with the drive test feature.
For the xif issue, is your file follow the xif format ?
For the details xif supported format, you can check on the help file inside the xeus tool.

Hi Maxim,

You need to import the site data first and make sure either cell id or RncId+Cid to be matched with your Nokia network dump.

Site data can be imported by few formats such as Xeus xif or tems cel files.

Sorry for the stupid questions but when you say site data, can you give me an example of what should be in the site data, ie co-ordinates, cid parameters , can some one upload an example please.

I imported an xml dump of our nokia network and it parsed the information
but im guessing because no site data was added no maps or network topology was built.

Hi Maxim,

If you have the tool installed, you can go to help file and search for xif, there is a list of xif format.

Else, you can go to the Xeus program folder and search for the the demo xif data.

Sorry for late reply. The problem was caused by the licensing component. We have resolved this in the new Xeus installation. Please get the new copy of Xeus at [Only registered and activated users can see links]

You will need to re-register to get a new serial key because the new build will not work with old key.

This problem occurs when the COM registration of the MapInfo Professional is corrupted. This is usually resolved after re-installed the MapInfo Professional.

The free version of Xeus does not support TEMS log. You will need the Pro edition to process drive test log. For the Pro edition it supports exported FMT up to TI 13.

We are releasing a new version of Xeus Pro with new Excel Report Builder within next two weeks. Will provide more information when it is out.

Would it be possible for you to try to re-install Mapinfo?
We suspect there is a registry corruption for the Mapinfo application that prevents Xeus to start it through the window OLE system.
Please try this and restart your machine before trying to start Xeus again.

i am using the tool and it is excellent except some point to be mention , its quit slow if the network is big ( more than 2000 cells ) and some time it seem that the map basic engine crash ( zooming will give error ) but its ok ( just need to restart the project).

one thing to add is a parameter reader ( the current xeus just read basic parameter , it worth working on it to make it read all the major parameter ) something like NeXplorer.

I know that they have other tool for that but it worth to make it also in Xeus :)

Xeus currently can only support daily statistics. It will report duplicate date after the first hour.

Thank you for your good feedback. We will try to solve the zoom crashing issue. May I know what version of MapInfo are you using?

Regarding the poor performance, can you please provide more details like which feature e.g. map, google earth etc. has performance issue when you load large network data?

As for the full parameter, the feature is available in the Pro version.

Plesae can you explaing the following error message when importing data

Cell with MoAddress: SN=Nok3G,RNC=109,BTS=1006,UtrCell=7030211 has no matching site entry.

I think I under stand the concept of importing data, I have created my xif file, import it then it craetes network with out any issues.

My xif file only contains, cellid, siteid,long,lat,mcc,mnc,lac,ci,antdir,antheight, techband rncid, cid and arfcn.

Then I take a Nokia dump of the RNC (Netact version 5.3, RNC 5.0) and import using the NSN option v4, my understanding it should take the configuartion data and added it to the network.

What I get is 2 networks one undefined which is corrlated to the xif file then another network called rnc-109 with only a hand full of sites all the sites which are missing are in the above error message

need help to understand error message

i have managed to get all cells into network view but still do not understand why it show 2 networks in the project, one network is correct with correct RNC id and the other network just has wbts id no cells.

after i have imorted xif file, I then import nokai dump using version 3 option selceting radio button for rnc+cid for matcing, no other options selected.

this is a very good tool... but i'm having a small problem. I imported Huawei mml and now i want to change some arfcn on some of the sites from Network Properties tab... but even if i change it, still old arfcn are displayed in the map window, what should i do?

Normally you can use GE button in Aexio to show your cells on GE directly, or you can take get snapshot photos or use "Satellite Maps Downloader" to get photos from GE and then open it in mapinfo as image and register it by selecting 3 points coordinates and converting it to .tab format. Then it could be open directly in Aexio from Menu-Open.

Dear Keanchan, I use your great tool for daily KPI browsing. It's really great just some problems still there is. Specially for me I have problem to adjust X-Y axis range of KPI charts. It make some difficulties specially when you can not distinguish the KPI changes day by day. Dear Keanchan, I use your great tool for daily KPI browsing. It's really great just some problems still there is. Specially for me I have problem to adjust X-Y axis range of KPI charts. It make some difficulties specially when you can not distinguish the KPI changes day by day. I mean it does not let you customize axis ranges and then the output is not quiet clear. see attached snapshot please:

Hi taki, The problem usually caused by certain version MapInfo Professional. What is your MapInfo version? Do you have other version?

It's true for X-Axis, but for Y-Axis impossible to edit the range! I mean there is no way to decrease or extend the range of Y-Axis values!!

Normally you can use GE button in Aexio to show your cells on GE directly, or you can take get snapshot photos or use "Satellite Maps Downloader" to get photos from GE and then open it in mapinfo as image and register it by selecting 3 points coordinates and converting it to .tab format. Then it could be open directly in Aexio from Menu-Open.

You should merge these tiles to have a single map, and then easily you can mark 3 points of this map in GE to obtain the coordinates of their place-marks and then use these to register your map file in Mapinfo.

I found the solution for this problem. It's actually Win7 error for Arial Font, for those who have same problem, can use attached file to resolve the problem.

that means you have to open that merged bmp image file again in google earth, align it to its correct place somehow and mark 3 points in it? sorry if i sound stupid, but i am totally clueless in this regard :)

Dear keanchan, Do you have any solution for Y-Axis Zoom in, Zoom out problem. It's really annoys me when try to trace the changes in KPI values. Also I believe that chart type option can be more flexible that what it is now! May be you can provide more options as like as Excel chart options.

Actually here you can find parameter template for different vendor dump parameters, but I like to know is it possible to import dump parameters to Aexio database too! Please help, as it really interesting option!
