Dears,

we are preparing for Refarming, and 2G PS Data occupations is our bottleneck
Do you have any recommended parameter / features to compress & Multiplex Data in the minimum possible Timeslots

Hi.
I recommend to you to look for refarming in the whole forum.
There are lot of threads that can show a light to your need.
For instance:

Hope it helps

Nothing in above shared links, has relation with PS Data compression

Sorry, I didn't understand your question then.
In general the idea is to hand over a GSM PS Data connection to LTE or 3G. This is what in some of the included threads it's named "Traffic Steering".
This is for sure only valid for devices supporting LTE or 3G. In case of only GSM devices, this traffic will remain in 2G. Depending on your LTE/3G devices market share this will show how 2G bandwidth could be decrease without affecting to the quality.
Sorry but I don't have more detail information

Hi.
I have been looking for your request and before trying to perform some kind of 2G PS Data Compresion following steps are recommended for a required spectrum efficiency:
1. Fundamental and Advanced RAN Features (depending on each vendor):
- implement VAMOS in order to reduced voice bandwidth requirements
- features to reduce interferences between cells (e.g. IRC)
- features for synchronization at cell level
- features for Power Control
- features for signalling robustness and compresion
- apart from Frequency Hopping, AMR, DTX...
2. Efficient Frequency Planning: trying to use a good planning Tool

About 2G PS Data Compresion, I have not aware about some specific feature but it's mandatory to reduce the interference from PS Data, for instance some feature for PS Downlink Power Control.
Other issue is the HW bottlenecks. In order to maximize TS efficiency, HW for Abis, PCU and Gb have to be checked.

Hope it helps

Hi,

My comment having tried similar is good luck, you will need it :) Lots of old junk out there embedded in all sorts of kit use 2G only. Many new Iot products (think bike hire company) use 2G only modems because they are so cheap. I see plenty of CS Data still running too!

You really need two workstreams, first try and get rid of devices that have 3G / 4G, some suggestions:

1. Cell layer priorities in order
2. Reduce 2G - 2G neighbor list, ideally less than 16 as large neighbor list delays sysinfo messages you need to get back to 3G/4G
3. Parameters like Qsearch etc are all correct
4. Fast return features are on and working
5. 2G->3G handover (absolute last resort - customers will not be happy)

Second, deal with the 2G only users by squeezing the TRX / GPRS TS count and as others already advised above you want to try and speed up the GPRS service so the devices transfer the data and release the TS quicker. Again some suggestions:

1. Set half rate to max
2. Set at least one dedicated GPRS TS
2. Enable EGPRS
3. Initial high MCS
4. Reduce GPRS TS dynamic allocation, reduce TRX count to the blocking level you can accept
5. On problem cells can use CRO / PT to shift users to a different cell
5. Hope the users get fed up and upgrade + field customer complaints

Note You can get sometimes get better information from the SGSN with regards problem cells.
