View Full Version : HSUPA - Setup and Access low (cause: too many users)

Hi all,

I'm evaluating some sites (NSN sites) where the HSUPA was activated.
The problem is that, the setup and access for HSUPA is very low since 8am to 18pm.
Checking the failure causes, it shows that the setup has failed due to "too many users".
As far as I can understand, as long has the DCH was allocated (instead of the e-DCH), that doesn't represent a big problem.. because the uplink connection was established nevertheless. I think that's the case, because the RAB PS Setup&Access is perfect.

Keeping in mind that HSUPA could the optimized (allowing more users in the cell), I would like to know what parameters (WBTS and WCELL) reduces or enlarges the allowed number of HSUPA users in the cell.

Btw.. any references/comments regarding the impact of allowing more users in the cell, HW requirements, CE %utilization, etc., are always welcome! ;)

Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Hi all,

The failures is not a big problem as long as you are allocated with a normal DCH in UL instead of E-DCH (HSUPA). The limiting parameter is "MaxNumberEDCHCell" and "HSUPAxUsersEnabled". Try to increase the present value. The max value for "MaxNumberEDCHCell" is 72. The max value possible in your network depends upon the feature licenses purchased by you and also about the RAN version RU10/20/30.

For a short term relief, you can try changing the "NumberEDCHReservedSHOBranchAdditions" to 01.

Changing the 'initialbitrate' will not help in this case.

If you are increasing the allowed E-DCH users, it may increase the UL interferance and hence cause undesired results. If you still want to increase, try implementing Interferance cancellation features including Frequency Domain Equilizer along with increasing the no: of allowed users.

Hi, If you do not have this feature activated "RAN1686: HSPA 72 Users Per Cell" then the maximum number of HSUPA per cell is 20 (actually 19) limited by available signatures in E-RGCH/E-HICH channels. There is some capacity improvements when TTI 2ms is activated.
