Hi experts,
Could you please explain and simlify to me what a :

Transparent Transfer Mode.
Unacknowledged Transfer Mode.
Acknowledged Transfer Mode.

What is the difference and when a specific transfer mode will be used ?

Many thanks.

Hi dears,
Finally I got the answer :

Radio link control (RLC) handles the segmentation and retransmission for both the
user and control data.RLC may be operated on three different modes:

. Transparent mode, when no overhead is added due to the RLC layer, such as with
AMR speech, and is not applicable when the transport channels of HSDPA and
HSUPA are used.

. Unacknowledged mode, when no RLC layer retransmission will take place. This is
used with applications that can tolerate some packet loss, as is the case with VoIP, and
cannot allow delay variation due to RLC level retransmission.

. Acknowledged mode operation, when data delivery is ensured with RLC layer
retransmissions with applications that require all packets to be delivered.

In Transparent mode, the packets flow through the RLC layer, without the addition of any headers, mainly to deter introduction of jitter for streaming data.
In Unacknowledged mode, RLC layer appends a header and is normally used for voice
In Acknowledged mode, RLC layer appends a header which contains a sequence no to help the receiver to identity lost RLC block, and seek a retransmission. This mode is essential for BER intolerant applications such as FTP, web-browsing, email..
