hi guys

do you know what is the typical value of fast dormancy timer for iphone and other smartphones?

also is this something that is operator configurable (e.g. over-the-air provisioning)?

cheers

Huawei define these three different timers for fast dormancy

PsInactTmrForFstDrmDch specifies the PS inactivity timer for CELL_DCH. default value-4s
PsInactTmrForFstDrmFach specifies the PS inactivity timer for CELL_FACH. default value-10s
PsInactTmrForPreFstDrm specifies the PS inactivity timer for CELL_PCH.default value-360s

are there any parameters of this kind for E///?

Mobile side implmentations usually keep the timer between 3 to 7 seconds, with 5 seconds being almost a widely accepted value.

This is for Rel-7 implementations. With Rel-8 support for fast dormancy, the mobile vendors may reduce this timer to 3 seconds.

Note that in Rel-7 or earlier, the mobile on triggering Signalling connection release (fast dormancy) will go back to Idle state, so the DCH/FACH etc. timers don't apply.

For Rel.8 Fast Dormancy implementation, T323 FD timer is set by operator on RNC.

If T323 is broadcasted in SIB1 message than network supports Rel.8 FD, if not than Rel.8 FD is not supported.

This timer determines the minimum time between two consecutive SCRI messages that UE can send.

I think that document is publicly available on Huawei web page:

If you own a Samsung Android phone, there is a way to play with Fast Dormancy setting.

Type *#9900# and you will get a hidden menu where it is possible to Enable/Disable Fast Dormancy.

By using this you can test your phone behavior in both scenarios and see how FD can affect your network.

Hope this trick was usefull.

Even if T323 is not broadcast, the behaviour in Rel-8 network will be Rel-8 only. UE will not move to IDLE in itself on sending signalling connection release.
