FileZilla is good ftp freeware, both server and client, been a while since I used the server but I still use the client application.

Yes, big changes happening on the "free" internet as we know it .. maybe difficult times .. but these sorts of challenges tend to come up every few years ... the people of the internet will just have to "adapt".

after going through the posts below and from my understanding, i say this:-

with regard to the problem of increasingly reduced hosting websites, specifically, www.4shared.com, am not really sure about the 1-FEB-2012 is the closing date of the free hosting services offered by 4shared. i just checked the site, and things went so good. there's even no (important announcements) that the site will make any changes.
on the other hand, megaupload is no more that ease of share..i'm facing similar problems with filesonic+fileserve+,etc

nevertheless, i personally prefer (mediafire) as the fastest in terms of downloading (with 1 month free account)...
moreover, the site (www.zshare.com) is an awesome ftp site too.....as far as i can tell....it hosts files for a very long time, maybe months for free.

so, mediafire+4shared+zshare are still good choices. and i'm using them constantly!

But our community need to think about moving to P2P: torrent, magnet link, donkey, DC...
