What is difference between Eb/No and Ec/No?

Eb/N0 = Bit Energy to Noise Density

Ec/N0 = Carrier to noise Ratio

What is difference between Eb/No and Ec/No?

just as the name implies, Ec is the energy of the chips,

Ec/No =RSCP/RSSI, Ratio of energy per modulating bit to the noise spectral density.

Eb/No: Energy per bit to noise power density ;

that is, Ec is the Energy received before despreading spectrum and not to demodulate;

but Eb is the energy received after despreading spectrum and be demodulated;

so, Ec/No may be a negative number, but the Ec/No must be a positive number.

What is difference between Eb/No and Ec/No?

[Eb/No]dB = [Processing Gain]dB + Ec/Io dB

Ec/Io is measured before despreading at the receiver. Eb/No is the energy per bit to noise spectral density, at the output of the receiver. Eb/No is higher than Ec/Io due to the processing gain, which is equal to the amount of spreading the user data has undergone at the transmit end.

Processing Gain = [Spreading Factor ] dB = [Chip rate/gross user data rate] dB
