Hi Guys,
In one of certain LACs I cannot make voice calls, but can use GPRS.
Whenever I change LAC, problem disappears.
Please tell what can be the reason...

Thx in advance,

Shuhratech

First, please check this LAC is defined in the MSC;
Secondly, you can check the C7 signaling link to MSC is normal if this LAC is in one whole BSC, the C7 link may not normal between BSC and MSC.

this is a common problem, please read network topology for CS and PS, very different way to access both of this traffic. LAC is for CS otherwise on PS using RAC :)

You know, others could easily make CS...Thus, I think LAC is defined in MSC.

what i am suspecting is Lac defination

check this LAC it should not be shared in two MSCs.

also after checking the definition at MSC end, check the length of the new LAC, should be less than 16 bits.

hello here are my inputs to your query.

1. Check what BSC is in that LAC since you can have multiple BSCs in one LAC.
2. Check the signaling links of the BSC in the A-Interface. It should be able to cater SLS codes and status should be up and working.
3. Check the definition of LAC both for BSS and NSS. Check if corresponding point codes of BSC and MSC is correctly configured.
4. Check the LAC definition in NSS if the LAC is configured for the local MSC. It might be configured as LAC for adjacent MSC which is used for inter MSC handover.
5. If you had check all the above statements and found no problem try checking for cell restrictions in all sites. But I think you can already pin point the problem with the above 4 statements.

For immediate troubleshooting, send a tester in the BSC coverage and trace the subscriber at NSS side.

If you still have problems, please let me know. :lol
