Hi,

Same reason for 2G: Scanning the ch for interference and coverage issue. for 2G we can scan many ch. while in 3G only one ch.

With scanner you can measure not only the serving cell signal strength... for example If you measure with mobile and don't make a handover for some reason, you measure less SS, then with scanner... With scanner you can measure RXLev Best Server...

sensitivity of scanner is better than UE. With scanner you can scan all the scrambling codes seen being received depending on sensitivity (called as Top N and you can set it). You will obviously see RSCP, Ec/No etc from it and thus can optimize the network based on the data.

Also you can see some areas where there are more than 3 strong scrambling codes, which is not wishful in 3G.

1-Scanner sensibility is better them MS. You can find more sc's
2-To find interferer scramblingcodes..
3-To find covarege
4-To find pilot pollution
