Guys,

How would you differentiate between planning and optimization of LTE and WCDMA Systems? What are the key differences?

Essentially the same.

Difference in planning & optimization will come if 3G and LTE are not using the same frequency band.

For the sake of example : 3G in 2.1 GHz and LTE in 2.5GHz
- Less penetration in 2.5GHz, so additionnal micro cell are to be provisionned to provide better coverage
- Overlay may be tricky since new antenna are to be used.
- Frequency concept to increase capacity is somewhat not relevant. So expect more 4 or 6 sectors site to be built.

Hope this helps.

The key difference is in technology. UMTS is CDMA and LTE is OFDM. On the physical layer, if you take care about the coverage only, optimization is the same. If you look at interference and capacity... it is much more different.

lte cell edge throughput and capacity will be better then WCDMA
