Map Info Apps. in Telco. (http://pram.web.id/blog/2008/06/02/map-info-apps-in-telco/)
Salam…
A couple weeks ago, there’s a friend (http://pram.web.id/blog/?p=123#comment-181)asked me to write an article about Map Info Applicaton inTelecommunication. I’m Sorry because my badly habit, I wasn’t able toanswer it…sooner than this. Hopefully this post can answer his question^_^
At first, I was confused about the study case that I’m going to usein this article. Why? because I can’t use actual (propietary) data frommy company or my ex-client. So I decided to create my own case study…hehehe http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Case Study:
Let assume that I’m going to build my own Cellular Operator calledpram_cel (your truly FWA ~halah..~). Due to capital limitedness, Idecided to build my network in southern Bandungonly, a place where I achieve my Bachelor degree. Yup… Bojongsoang Area:D, I realized that signal in this area wasn’t very good at thattime…hekekek
This is the sceenshot of the area.

As an Operator, ofcourse I use my consultant to plan my network.Hehehe… maybe I’ll use my friends on mobilecommlab to desgn it. Andafter they do a little calculation, they send me an email contains anexcel sheet. Below you can see the details.

After you see the table, maybe I wanna share a little bit information about the fields.
Site Name : contains the name of the sites
Sector : sector ID, usually using alpha, beta, gamma or 0, 1, 2.
Latitude : Coordinate point on the north or south orientation.
Longitude : coordinate point on the west or east orientation.
on the table above, the coordinates are writen in decimal values. You know in google earth or in the map, usually the coordinate iswritten in degrees, minutes, seconds value ( ex: 6 69‘ 59′(corrected by kenneth (http://pram.web.id/blog/?p=143#comment-203))9.37″) in order to get the decimal value, we have to do simplecalculation: divide the minute value with 60, and the second value with3600. (just like a clock; degree equals with hour, so 1degree =60minutes = 3600seconds), so the decimal value of 6 69′ 9.37″ =6+(69/60)+(9.37/3600)=6.985936111
Orientation : the sector orientation on degree.
Beamwidth : contains broad side of the sector antenna.
PN : Pseudo Noise code, the Sector’s identity.
Well.. after you read those texts above maybe you are wondering, where is the Map Info application?? here we go… I assume that you haveexperienced with basic Map Info, espescially on how to open tab file, map etc. In this article, we are going to use map basic application(cdmadoc add-in). Shall we continue??
Below, I’ll try to give the Illustration.
1. Run Map Basic on MapInfo.
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map1.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map1.bmp)

2. Run CDMAdoc/Base station data/Import base station data.
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map3.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map3.bmp)
3. Klik Get station data, and browse the *.txt file klik open, and thenklik ok (don’t forget to check: Show base station… before it)
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map4.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map4.bmp)
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map5.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map5.bmp)
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map6.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map6.bmp)
4. and you can see the network ^_^
http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map7.bmp (http://pram.web.id/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/map7.bmp)
From the screen shot above, we can see the coverage area per sector, the orientation, and ofcourse the PN code as it’s Identity. About theDesign, maybe I’ll post another article someday… hehehe :p
